Despite the construction sector being Australia’s third largest employer, and unique challenges compared to other sectors there has been very little research into the experience of LGBTQ+ employees and the barriers and opportunities that they face at work.
To address this Lendlease partnered with academics from the Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW Sydney to research barriers to LGBTQ+ inclusion in construction. The research included an international literature review and 23 in-depth interviews with participants across Australia with trade and office based backgrounds.
We are hosting a panel discussion facilitated by Aaron Spicer, Lendlease LGBTQ+ Pride network chair to launch the research findings. The panel will discuss the reasons to focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion in construction, findings and recommendations for the industry going forward.
Our Panellists will be:
Dale Connor (he/him), Chief Executive Officer, Lendlease Building
Nicki Elkin (they/them), Senior Relationship Manager, Pride in Diversity
Natalie Galea (she/her), Postdoctoral Fellow, Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW Sydney
Melissa Jardine (she/her), Research Fellow, Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW Sydney
